Bobby Moak was one of the leaders in the Democrat-led legislature for over 30 years.  During his service in the House he chaired that chamber’s first Gaming Committee.  Moak is credited with working across party lines and shepherding into law the “800-foot Rule,” which allowed casinos to move 800 feet on-shore, revitalizing the Mississippi Gulf Coast gaming industry after Hurricane Katrina.  He was recognized as Legislator of the Year for groups such as the Mississippi Association for Justice, Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Association, Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police, Delta Council, Mississippi Association of Realtors, and the Mississippi Tourism Association.

Now he’s reinventing his political influence.  Bobby Moak is the new chairman of the Mississippi Democrat Party, a position most would find challenging in this red state.  However, Moak brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in state government and politics.

Since taking the reins of the Democrat Party, Moak has been actively meeting with party members and elected officials, trying to lay a groundwork for future electoral success at the ballot box.  His mass emails, social media activity, and frequent comments to the press aimed at challenging the Republican leadership are trying to lay the groundwork for a more organized opposition party in Mississippi.

By trade, Moak is an attorney that in his first jury trial, along with his co-counsel the novelist, John Grisham and Danny Cupit received the largest jury award at that time in Lincoln County, Mississippi.  Conversely, it was Grisham’s last trial before he left the courtroom to focus on books, screenplays, television and movies.
