Mississippi's Top 50 Most Influential
After a 25 year career in the Mississippi House where he served in the majority party and wielded enormous influence, George Flaggs embarked on a second political career of sorts in 2013. He ran for Mayor of the City of Vicksburg and now is the mayor of his hometown.
One of Flaggs’s talents as a legislator was the ability to work not only across party lines, but also to work across racial lines as well. There have been conversations in both parties that push Flaggs for consideration for possibly an open statewide seat in 2019. However, nowhere is that crossover appeal more needed than as a mid-size Delta city mayor, and he seems really content where he is.
Nearing the end of his first term, he has already announced that he will seek a second term in the upcoming municipal election in 2017.
Mississippi Top 50 is an annual list of the people who are judged to be the most influential leaders in the state. This bipartisan selection of leaders comes from the ranks of elected and appointed officials, economic development professionals, business, media and government affairs. The awards are sponsored by Y’all Politics and Supertalk Mississippi and awardees were nominated through an open process.
