Nathan Wells had a good thing going in 2011.  He had a top notch political consulting outfit advising candidates and campaigns and was a go-to guy for political direct mail.  But in 2011, he got tapped as one of the handful of people to help execute the strategy for the Republican takeover of the Mississippi House.  Of course, immediately after, Republicans came into leadership and had to build an entire political apparatus.  Wells was brought in as Chief of Staff for newly minted House Speaker Philip Gunn.

His charge now is to provide policy guidance and floor organization at the direction of the Speaker.  Since 2011, Nathan has been involved in legislative successes such as the Charter School Act, Literacy Based Promotion Act (aka Third Grade Gate), and numerous education, budget, tax cut and economic development bills that have defined the body.  He’s one of a handful of people under the dome that people go to get a sense of political and policy implications for just about any piece of legislation.

In addition to legislation and policy, Wells has played a key role in helping organize the Republican Caucus in a way not seen in Mississippi.  In 2015, he took a sabbatical from state work to help politically orchestrate the campaign that resulted in the magic number resulting in a House Republican super-majority.  Now he enters his second legislative term as one of the more powerful non-elected policy influencers in the state.
