Mississippi's Top 50 Most Influential
Referred to as a rainmaker and affectionately nicknamed “shortstop” by a former boss because nothing gets past her, Sandy Ray has established herself as a mover and a shaker under the Capitol dome. From managing the campaigns of statewide elected officials to crafting and moving legislation, she has been in the thick of the political arena for quite some time.
A proud lifelong Mississippian, Ray has a reputation not only as an extremely hard worker, but also as a trustworthy and knowledgeable lobbyist for both sides of the aisle in state and regional politics. Sandy founded Southern Consulting Associates almost 20 years ago before taking a 12-year hiatus to serve as Chief of Staff for the Mississippi Insurance Department and State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney.
In 2018, Ray elected to re-focus her full attention to her firm, and today she represents and has won legislative campaigns for a host of notable insurance, healthcare, entertainment industry, and other clients. She has extensive experience with associations, nonprofit organizations, and state regulatory affairs. Prior to opening her consulting business, Ray worked with the Office of the Attorney General and Boys & Girls Clubs of America opening clubs across the Mississippi Delta, and was a founder of the Boys and Girls Clubs Alliance of Mississippi where she served as the executive director and lobbyist.
