Mississippi's Top 50 Most Influential
Josh Harkins has served in the Mississippi State Senate representing District 20 in Rankin County since 2012. He is the current Senate Finance Chairman providing oversight and significant influence over tax policy, state bonds, capital projects, and other fiscal matters.
During the prior session, Senator Harkins successfully guided important legislation through the Legislature supporting Mississippi Businesses and providing rental assistance for individuals and businesses during the economic disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic.
After finishing his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University in Business, Senator Harkins moved back to Rankin County where he started his career in real estate and construction. Senator Harkins is the current president of Harkins Realty, a real estate development company, and a broker and co-owner of Lane Harkins Commercial Real Estate, a commercial real estate brokerage company.
Senator Harkins serves on the Board of Directors for Merit River Oaks Hospital and the American Legislative Exchange Council. He is a member of the National Conference of State Legislators, Mississippi Commercial Association of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors. Senator Harkins is married to the former Andrea Scales, and has two daughters, Emerson and Carlysle.
