Mississippi's Top 50 Most Influential
Representative Robert L. Johnson, III, was born in Natchez, Mississippi. He attended undergraduate school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law at Champaign Urbana Illinois.
Robert Johnson has been a member of the Mississippi Legislature for the past 29 years, the first 11 in the Senate and the past 18 in the House. Representative Johnson currently serves as the Vice Chair of Ports, Harbors and Airports. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice Chairman of the House Medicaid Committee, and as the former Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Representative Johnson currently serves as the House Democratic Leader.
Representative Johnson is a solo practitioner who practices law in his hometown of Natchez, MS as well as Jackson, MS. Representative Johnson has represented plaintiffs in jurisdictions all over the state and successfully defended a number of national and international corporations in some of the toughest jurisdictions in Mississippi, around the southeast as well as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania over the last 30 years. He is the son of Robert L. Johnson, Jr., and Joyce Johnson and is married to the former Evelyn Joiner. They are the proud parents of Kai, Nona, and Robert, IV.
