Mississippi’s Top 50 Most Influential
SportsTalk Mississippi, hosted by Richard Cross every weekday afternoon on SuperTalk Mississippi, has been the place to go for sports news, interviews, conversation and fun for more than a decade. Cross co-created SportsTalk Mississippi as the first, and only, statewide sports talk radio show, but it has grown into a multimedia giant through online video streaming, on-demand availability and a podcast network in addition to the statewide radio footprint on twelve SuperTalk Mississippi radio stations.
In addition to his work with SportsTalk, Cross is a television play-by-play announcer for ESPN and the SEC Network, broadcasting college football, basketball and baseball. He also works as a host, announcer and sideline reporter for the Ole Miss Sports Network from Learfield. Cross was named Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year in 2018 by the National Sports Media Association.
Cross lives in Oxford and is an Ole Miss graduate with a degree in journalism and will begin teaching in the University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media in the fall of 2022. Cross is on the organizing committees and is the emcee for Taste of Oxford and Tailgate for Palmer, local fundraising events for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Palmer Home for Children.
Mississippi Top 50 is an annual list of the people who are judged to be the most influential leaders in the state. This bipartisan selection of leaders comes from the ranks of elected and appointed officials, economic development professionals, business, media and government affairs. The awards are presented by Y'all Politics and WJTV, and sponsored by Kinetic Staffing, Mississippi Farm Bureau, Capitol Resources, Tower Loan and The Payne Group. Awardees were nominated through an open process. Follow MSTop50 on Twitter @MSTop50 or on Facebook to keep up with news and updates about MSTop50 winners and events.
