Joe Nosef is one of the most visible party chairs Mississippi has had. A regular on national media, including appearances on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Nosef developed a media profile that puts his party and his state in a very favorable light. As Mississippi Republican Party chairman, Joe Nosef has been tested at every turn during his tenure. Yet his ability to remain focused on the overall health of the party and its members has helped him keep the ship upright in a very tumultuous political environment both on the state and national level.
Nosef has proven his mettle and has been an advisor to Republican officials from Gov. Phil Bryant on down to the municipal officials in the GOP. His service as Chief Counsel and campaign manager for former Gov, Haley Barbour, coupled with his time as Chief of Staff to then Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant prepared him well for his current task as party chairman, a role he assumed in 2012. He also serves as a Counsel with the Watkins & Eager law firm in Jackson.
During his tenure, Republicans have improved their standing in the Legislature and gained a supermajority in both chambers and have remained in control of 7 of the 8 statewide offices. And though party chairman in both parties are usually a pretty high turnover job, it’s notable that Nosef is now the 3rd longest tenured state GOP chair in the US.
