State Senator Terry Burton has one of the more distinct voices in the Capitol Dome. With a history in radio, he’s learned to use that voice effectively advocating for policy on those things he holds dear. After 25 years in the Mississippi Senate, his loyalty and perseverance was rewarded by being named Senate Pro Tempore in 2016. As one of Lieutenant Governor’s most trusted allies, he leads the floor efforts for the Senate agenda and is involved in every major piece of legislation.
During his Senate tenure, he has chaired the Senate committees for Energy, Investigative State Offices, Universities and Colleges, and Elections and also chaired numerous other subcommittees and task forces. He is a member of the MS Home Corporation Oversight, State Workforce Investment Board, Facilities Management Advisory Committee, Medical Care Advisory Committee, the Rotary, Newton Booster Club and the Newton Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Philadelphia, he currently resides in Newton. His professional experience includes working as a director at Parent Training & Information Center; marketing and public relations consultant; radio consultant; salesman; radio personality; manager of WQST, WMOX, and WMYQ Radio; and owner/manager of For Real Productions.
